Our Children’s Artwork are Treasured Pieces

Over the years, I had amassed quite a collection of old school papers from our four children.  Today, our oldest is 30 and our youngest is 21. The two in the middle are 22 and 29. Sorting through the stacks of papers had been on my list to do for some time.  I decided the other day it was finally time to tackle it.

This wasn’t necessarily a chore for me though.  I was in search of treasures, and was loving it. I even found some!

Way back when, in 1974, my husband had drawn a picture at school that his grandmother had the foresight to frame. Before she passed away, she gave that piece of artwork to us. It has been such a special little piece sitting on our shelf amongst books.

It had been my goal, since receiving that gift, to frame a picture drawn from each of our kids.  Not only so to pass the framed pictures along to our kids when they are old and gray, but for my husband and I to enjoy them now, somewhere in our house, while we are getting old and gray.  (Realize I said getting.  We’re not there yet.)

But we are enjoying the pictures now.

I found many pictures in the stack of papers.  I’m so thankful for keeping them. At the time I might have been bothered by ‘all these papers’, but they truly are treasures.

I found a treasure from each of our kids, each of an ocean theme, that I framed.  I’ve placed them down our steps where we can see them from where we sit at night.

We’re basically empty nesters now. Our youngest daughter is finishing up college, and one of our sons is still in Medical School, but the other two are married with homes of their own.

It’s nice to glance over at the images and know such love.  We’re so proud of all 4 of our kids and how they have grown.

Those pieces of art on the wall are priceless to us.  Treasures indeed.
